Start with the material and the cut. Porcelain and ceramic tile, granite and marble can require different blades. Then check the blade diameter, arbor, machine type and wet or dry operating method. Use the individual product page to compare models instead of assuming that blades of the same size perform the same job.

A cutting blade separates material or forms a cut. A grinding cup removes material to shape or refine an edge. Polishing pads and hand pads are selected for later finishing steps. Some models have additional uses, but those should be confirmed in their product specifications rather than applied to every tool.

The operating method depends on the model. This selection includes products with different wet and dry requirements. Follow the directions for the blade, drill or pad as well as the power tool. A product intended for one operating method should not be assumed suitable for the other.

For a core drill, select the opening diameter required by the fitting and confirm the thread and drilling depth. For a polishing pad, choose the diameter and polishing step for the surface and finish, then match the attachment system to the holder.
